Visiting East Anglia

East Anglia comprises five counties – Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, and is a treasure trove of beautiful villages and rich landscapes.

Lincolnshire
The fens and the wolds of Lincolnshire are an Area of outstanding Natural Beauty, and with good cause. The southeast of the county around Holland is the flat Fen country, boasting a network of thriving waterways where you can walk, cycle, sail and fish.

The gently undulating Wolds are found in the more northerly land, and this is the highest point in eastern England. Simply soak up the views, or visit one of the many attractions such as the Red Hill Nature Reserve, the idyllic Claythorpe Watermill and Willingham Woods.

Norfolk
Over 100 miles of coastline edges the county of Norfolk, and over 200 miles of waterways criss-cross the interior through the Norfolk Broads. Visitors can enjoy breath-taking white sandy beaches and mellow seaside towns; alongside historic buildings, windmills and stately homes such as the Sandringham Estate.

Essex
The magnificent Epping Forest is a must-see for any visitor to East Anglia, covering 6000 acres from Manor Park, East London to Epping. The Essex coastline is rich in mudflats and salt marshes, so a true gem for bird watchers.

Cambridgeshire
Most of the county is characterised by flat fenland and wide plains, with a network of wetlands, waterways and rivers. Famous for it’s university, the city of Cambridge is steeped in academic history and historic buildings. Cycling fans will love Peterborough’s vast network of cycle paths, known as the Green Wheel.

Suffolk
Suffolk is a rural idyll with a strong agricultural history. The county is rich with farmland and hedgerows and boasts two of the most popular coastal destinations in the UK – Aldeburgh and Southwold. History lovers will find a treat in the Wool Towns of the south, or you can enjoy the restaurants and bars of the Ipswich Waterfront.
